When Arizona Senators were debating the marriage amendment, did Sen. Harper stand up for Family values or simply silence any opposition? Did he really think cutting of the microphones on the floor of the Arizona Senate were a way to win an argument or just a way to admit he had no understanding of the issue at hand?
Arizonians voted down a similar ballot measure in 2006 but the conservatives always want to the last word as they try to pass, by any means, another bigoted measure. This can not be allowed to happen. To help defeat Prop 102, please make a donation.
(Phoenix, Ariz.) The Arizona state senate ethics committee will probe maneuvering by Republican leaders that led to a proposed constitutional ban on same-sex marriage being approved for the November election.
The committee voted 3-2 to hold hearings on whether Sen. Jack Harper (R) intentionally broke the Legislature’s rules by cutting off a Democratic filibuster and forcing a vote.
One of two openly gay senators in the legislature called for the ethics investigation, saying Harper and other GOP leaders engaged in dirty tricks.
After the microphones were cut, Republicans forced an immediate vote on the proposed amendment. It passed on a 16-4 vote. It had previously been approved by the House.
Public opinion polls have showed that while most people in the state oppose same-sex marriage, they do not want to enshrine that in the constitution.
